Multiple Injured as Turbulence Hits Delta Aircraft Landing at Sydney

Several people were hurt following a Delta flight traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney experienced rough air this past Friday.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it landed at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson informed. Four flight attendants sustained injuries.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they assessed a total of five people, and took a trio to the hospital with minor injuries that included spinal discomfort and headaches. The injured spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the newest example of commercial jets experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with researchers indicating that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.

The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and fifteen staff members on the aircraft, the representative added, adding that the plane landed "safely and normally" at the airport at 06:48 local time on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they were alerted just three minutes prior to the plane landed, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.

The reasons turbulence is getting more frequent - and potentially more dangerous.

In the previous year, 25 people were injured when a separate Delta aircraft, flying from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, Netherlands, experienced "considerable" turbulence just a couple of hours into the transoceanic journey, and diverted for an unscheduled landing.
